With the population of Brisbane increasing and congestion on its road network reaching critical levels, Brisbane’s Lord Mayor, Campbell Newman, announced his TransApex plan to tackle congestion in 2004. Central to this plan was the 6.8km North South Bypass Tunnel (CLEM7).

The $3 billion project was completed on budget, almost seven months ahead of schedule and includes two parallel, twin-lane, 4.8 km tunnels, dedicated smoke ducts, an electronic tolling system, 18 bridges, 155,000 m² of roads and an intricate three-level interchange.

CLEM7 gives commuters the ability to bypass Brisbane’s CBD, reducing travel time by up to 15 minutes.
