NICTA's InterfereX team has developed a world-first wireless femtocell modem targeted for use with 3G mobile phones and ready for silicon chip productisation. Femtocells are indoor wireless access points for cellular wireless with a market size expectation of 45 million units in 2014. InterfereX's design contains novel interference cancelling techniques and a unique chip architecture to maximize range and throughput while minimising the cost. The modem has been validated in a real-time proof-of-concept platform. The design also minimises the impact on existing macro-cellular systems, which is critical for wireless operators world-wide as they face exponential growth in demand for bandwidth. |
